KTH

KTH

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is Sweden’s largest and oldest technical university and educates architects, teachers, and one-third of the country's civil engineers. KTH offers almost 100 degree programmes at first cycle and advanced level, which together attract around 17,000 students from all around the world. KTH is a research-heavy university, two thirds (67,2%) of the total funding is for research. KTH employs 2,800 research staff including 336 professors and 1,300 doctoral students.

Role in the project

In this project, KTH will provide expertise on transparent wood (TW), preparation, analysis of optical and mechanical properties, understanding of structure-property relationships, and modeling. In WP1 we perform modeling of wood structure and optical properties to be used in large-scale models developed in WP7 and WP8. WP5 is concerned with atomistic computer simulations of monomer-substrate interactions in connection with the modeling of monomer infiltration performed in WP4. In WP6 and WP10, KTH is involved in the chemical pretreatment of wood to facilitate TW fabrication as well as the production of transparent fiber composites, to further assist and validate the modelling activities identified in WPs 1-5.
